The S16 survey is designed to be brief, practical, and easy for shelters to administer. Staff can complete the survey in less than 5 minutes, and the survey focuses on two key areas:
Engagement, which captures employees’ sense of pride, attachment, and commitment to the organization.
Satisfaction, which assesses how employees feel about different aspects of their work experience.
The S16 process includes five main steps:
Step One: Submit an Expectations Contract
The process begins with an Expectations Contract that asks basic questions about your animal welfare organization and confirms leadership’s commitment to the S16 process.
Step Two: Access S16 Materials
Once your organization is approved, you will be able to create an account and access S16 materials, including survey instructions, employee invitation and reminder templates, and a unique survey link for your organization.
Step Three: Collect Survey Responses
The survey will remain open to employees for two weeks. During that time, you can send reminder emails to encourage participation. Templates are provided to make this step easier.
Step Four: Receive Results and Recommendations
When the survey closes, an aggregated Results Report will be generated based on employee responses. The report includes demographic information, an overall engagement score, item-level results, and access to evidence-based recommendations for supporting employee engagement and satisfaction.
Step Five: Receive Periodic Follow-Up Reminders
After the survey process is complete, you will receive periodic check-ins and reminders, including a notification when your organization is eligible to administer the S16 again.
